Previously, on January 15, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province issued document No. 283 requesting the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance to consider submitting to the Prime Minister for 991.5 tons of rice to support 13,634 households ( 66,102 people) under social protection, poor households of ethnic minorities, and mountainous areas are facing difficulties during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024.
However, just 1 day later (January 16), the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province issued a document withdrawing the above rice support request.
Mr. Hoang Nam – Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee said that following reviewing funding sources, Quang Tri province can balance its own resources to ensure people’s lives during the Lunar New Year 2024. Therefore, , the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province withdrew its request for rice support from the Government.

According to Mr. Nam, currently localities in the province are reviewing once more to make a list of households that need rice support during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
“Quang Tri province ensures that no people will go hungry. If any household needs support, the provincial budget will take care of it” – Mr. Nam said.
In addition to Quang Tri, Ca Mau also has a document requesting to withdraw the request to support rice for people during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
After receiving documents from these two provinces, on January 19, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs submitted a document to the Prime Minister to provide 6,607 tons of rice without charge from the national reserve to relieve famine. for 111,425 households/440,484 people of 10 provinces during Lunar New Year 2024.
The 10 provinces requested to provide rice to relieve hunger during the 2024 Lunar New Year include: Cao Bang, Binh Dinh, Gia Lai, Quang Binh, Nghe An, Bac Lieu, Dak Nong, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Binh Phuoc.
Particularly, 4 provinces of Gia Lai, Quang Binh, Dak Nong and Dak Lak also asked and received the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to request the Prime Minister to support more than 2,410 tons of rice to relieve hunger for 44,211 households/160,683 people during the occasion. border in 2024.
