Rafale, Russia… how did France become the world’s second largest arms exporter?

2024-03-13 07:12:17

94 Rafales sold between 2019 and 2023, an increase in military exports of 47% over the same period, record arms sales to India, Egypt and Qatar… the French military industry is experiencing a flourishing period. A trend confirmed by the SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) report published this Monday, March 11.

This places France for the first time in second position in the ranking of arms-selling countries ahead of Russia. With just over 11% of market share, the two states remain quite far from the American leader and its 42% of global exports. Elements of explanation of this French success.
