Rail Traffic Interruptions and Alternative Travel Options in Liège: Updates and Information

2023-07-08 06:15:00

Rail traffic is interrupted until August 27 between Liers, Herstal and Liège. Work must be carried out on line 34, which connects Hasselt and Liège, in order to guarantee the performance of the network and the safety of train traffic.

During the school holiday period, Infrabel, the rail infrastructure manager, will carry out various maintenance works within the tunnels, but also in-depth maintenance of the level crossings and switches located on this section. The catenary will be renewed and adapted in particular in the so-called “sous Pierreuse” tunnel. In mid-August, SNCB will also begin work to transform the Liège-Saint-Lambert underground station to make it a modern and safer surface station.

Due to these various works and in order to allow travelers to continue to travel between Liège-Guillemins and Herstal, the company has adapted its transport plan. Passengers will thus be able to take certain TEC buses (lines 1, 4, 5 and 6) between Liège-Guillemins and Herstal and SNCB replacement buses. To travel between Herstal and Liers, commuters are advised to take replacement buses. On July 8 and 9, like last weekend, train traffic will also be interrupted between Tongeren and Liers, as part of the same Infrabel project. There too, a replacement bus service will be set up.
