Thousands of Bulgarians demonstrated Monday in several cities of the country to protest once morest violence once morest women, following a news item that shocked public opinion, during which a teenager was slashed a hundred times by an ex-boyfriend, a month ago.

On Monday, demonstrators, including at least five thousand people in the capital Sofia, demanded reform of the judicial system and better protection for women, carrying posters that read, among other things, “Not a single woman more! »

“The traditional tolerance for domestic violence, the dysfunction of institutions must change,” said another protester, Ivan, who only agreed to reveal his first name.

Eighteen women were killed in the country in the first three months of the year, according to police figures, but human rights activists believe the figure is a gross underestimate.
