Raptors Recall Jackson-Davis After Timberwolves Loss & Fultz Signing

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

The Toronto Raptors are navigating a busy stretch of the NBA season, currently holding the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 35-27 record through 62 games, but recently experienced a 115-107 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. Amidst this competitive landscape, the team has made strategic roster moves, focusing on player development and bolstering their G League affiliate, the Raptors 905.

A key component of this strategy involves forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, who was recently acquired from the Golden State Warriors on February 4th in a trade for a 2026 second-round pick via the Lakers, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Raptors assigned Jackson-Davis to the NBA G League’s Raptors 905 following Thursday’s game, a move designed to provide him with additional playing time and development opportunities.

Jackson-Davis, a third-year professional, has shown promise in limited NBA action, averaging 6.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 173 career games while shooting 63.3% from the field. His performance with the Raptors 905 was particularly noteworthy, as he scored a career-high 32 points in a recent win against the Vipers, earning praise from the NBA G League official account on X (formerly Twitter): “Toronto Raptors forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was BALLIN’ tonight on assignment for the @Raptors905! He scored a double-double, with a career-high 32 points leading the team in their win against the Vipers. 🔥”.

The Raptors 905 similarly announced the signing of former No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz, adding a veteran presence to their roster. This move comes after the 905 lost three players to NBA call-ups this week – Sarr, Reese, and Roddy – highlighting the G League’s role as a developmental pipeline for the Raptors. Chris McKee noted this influx of talent, stating, “Some interesting news for the Raptors 905. They have signed former No.1 overall pick Markelle Fultz + Toronto has optioned Trayce Jackson-Davis to the G-League as well. The 905 lost 3 players to NBA deals this week (Sarr, Reese, Roddy) and needed bodies.”

Jackson-Davis has since been recalled to the NBA by the Raptors, as reported by Zulfi Sheikh of Sportsnet. He is expected to be available for Toronto’s upcoming game against the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. The Raptors, currently on a two-game losing streak (and 5-5 in their last ten games), will then travel to Houston to face Kevin Durant and the Rockets on Tuesday.

The Raptors’ current season marks a significant step forward under the leadership of head coach Darko Rajaković, who was named the NBA All-Star Game head coach for 2026, according to Wikipedia. The franchise is aiming to return to playoff contention after last making an appearance in 2022. These recent roster adjustments demonstrate a commitment to both maximizing the potential of young players like Jackson-Davis and maintaining a competitive edge at the NBA level.

As the Raptors continue their push towards the playoffs, the interplay between the NBA roster and the G League affiliate will be crucial. The team’s ability to effectively develop talent and manage player assignments will undoubtedly play a role in their success. The upcoming games against the Mavericks and Rockets will provide further insight into the Raptors’ strategy and their pursuit of a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference.
