Rare Bird Sighting in Durbuy: Southern Europe’s Elusive Species Spotted

2024-01-05 17:42:00

The species lives mainly in southern Europe as well as in North Africa and is essentially sedentary. They are also beach birds which are therefore rarely encountered in north-west Europe. The one and only observation to date in our country dates back to 1877 when a specimen was captured in Olloy in Namur.

For amateurs, the discovery of a blue mound is exceptional. It is therefore expected that many bird watchers will travel to Durbuy in the coming days to observe this rare bird. It is unknown how long the bird will stay in our country, but the chances of it finding a (also) lost female here are zero.
