There has never been a transfer like this in Leipzig: RB signs a new goalkeeper – but with a lead time of two years!
Maarten Vandevoordt (20) will only come to Leipzig in 2024 and will then have a five-year contract. Until then, he is in the box with Belgium first division club KRC Genk, where he has now extended his contract, which runs until 2023.
According to BILD information, RB pays a transfer fee of 10 million euros!
RB has already announced the future transfer: also as a signal to the competition! Vandevoort, at the age of 17 the youngest goalkeeper debut in the history of the Champions League (in December 2019 once morest Napoli), is considered one of the greatest goalkeeper talents in Europe and was ensnared by top clubs. FC Barcelona is also said to have dealt with him.
But Leipzig now won the race: At the club, the Belgian U21 international should follow in the footsteps of regular goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi (31, contract until 2025).
That’s why a transfer didn’t make sense now. Instead, Vandevoordt should develop for two more years in his home country.
