More than 51,600 new companies have been registered in the commercial register in Switzerland for the year 2023. This is a record, according to the online platform “startups.ch”. The number is up 3.2% compared to 2022. “A look at the past decade shows how far the start-up sector has grown. Ten years ago, the number of new registrations was around 40,800,” she wrote in a press release.
The platform also notes that new entrepreneurs are younger than before. “In 2023, almost 40% of new businesses will be created by people aged 28 to 37, compared to less than a quarter by people aged 38 to 47. The latter were still in the lead regarding five years ago,” she notes. “Younger people are perfectly connected via social media. They access know-how and capital via social media and at the same time intelligently use their digital network as a sales channel for their projects and newly created companies,” adds CEO of “startups.ch” Michele Blasucci.
Note that not all cantons show the same results. In some, the increase in the number of businesses created is high, such as in Graubünden (+13.8%), Uri (+12.3%) or Neuchâtel (+9.7%). Others have seen the figures drop, sometimes sharply, as in Obwalden (-16.1%) or Appenzell Innerrhoden (-11.8%). In French-speaking Switzerland, the figure is increasing in all cantons except those of Geneva and Valais.
