(CNN Spanish) — Phase 1 of the red alert due to rains was activated this Sunday in 112 communities in Madrid.
Through a statement, the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior issued an alert this Sunday before the rains and storms that are expected for this Sunday in Madrid and in the region of La Mancha Toledana in the province of Toledo, according to predictions of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
The citizens of Madrid were notified this followingnoon by means of an alert with an audible alarm.
According to AEMET, the maximum red level will remain active for today Sunday and tomorrow Monday.
This Sunday in the alerted areas there might be intense rainfall of more than 120 liters in 24 hours and locally for 12 hours.
For its part, the General Directorate of Traffic recommends not using vehicles unless it is strictly necessary and to exercise caution on roads that may be affected.
