BOSTON – The Red Sox Foundation unveiled a new Special Recognition Award,committing $750,000 in its inaugural year to bolster significant community investments. The initial recipients, Square One and the Pedro Martinez Foundation, will leverage this funding to broaden educational access and reinforce community foundations in underserved areas across the Dominican Republic and Western Massachusetts.

This annual award will empower the Red Sox Foundation board of directors to donate significant funds to non-profit partners aligned with their mission of focusing on education and recreation.This Special Recognition Award goes beyond the foundation’s existing programs, identifying and selecting honorees directly through the board’s expert evaluation.

the inaugural honorees will be honored during pre-game ceremonies today,September 12,at Fenway Park,prior to the 7:10 p.m. clash between the Red Sox and Yankees.

The Pedro martinez Foundation will utilize its $350,000 grant to establish a library within its Community & Health Center in Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic.the Red Sox have forged strong ties with the Dominican Republic through player growth and community initiatives,exemplified by the foundation’s longstanding Lindos Sueños program,a partner of the Pedro Martinez Foundation. The new library will offer reading nooks, computer access, and study spaces to over 1,700 students, as well as provide resources for adult community members.
