FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)–The online pharmacy Redcare Pharmacy has reached an important milestone. As the Dutch company announced, Gematik, the National Agency for Digital Medicine in Germany, has approved Redcare’s “E-Health-CardLink”. In the future, customers will be able to redeem electronic prescriptions using their health card and mobile phone. The product is expected to be available in the German Shop Apotheke app in early May.

“This is a significant milestone both for Redcare Pharmacy and for the fundamental digital transformation of healthcare in Germany,” said Redcare CEO Olaf Heinrich. “Ultimately, all the benefits that the digitized prescription brings will benefit the patients.” With the electronic health card, a smartphone and the Redcare app, prescriptions might now be redeemed anytime, anywhere.

E-Health-CardLink is an additional redemption option for e-prescriptions in addition to the existing eGK plug-in solution in stationary pharmacies, the Gematik app and the printed version of the e-prescription with QR code.
