Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step), already crowned in 2020, won the 2022 edition of the Tour of Algarve cycling in Portugal at the end of the 5th and last stage run on Sunday February 20 between Lagoa and the Alto do Malhao pass . The 22-year-old Belgian had not taken part in the 2021 edition due to convalescence following a crash in the 2020 Tour of Lombardy. Frenchman David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), who had donned the leader’s yellow jersey at the end of the 2nd stage, finished the race in 5th position, two minutes from Evenepoel.
