The French writer Philippe Sollers is dead. He died at the age of 86, as his publisher announced on Saturday. Several French media had previously reported. As the author of more than 80 works, critic and editor, he shaped literary France for decades. Sollers became famous in 1983 with his novel “Women”.

French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne wrote on Twitter regarding his death: “His tireless work on form, his search for beauty will remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.”
