The former vice-president of sp.a, who has since become Vooruit, Stephanie Van Houtven, died of cancer at the age of 40, the Flemish Socialist Party announced on Tuesday.
During her short political career, Stephanie Van Houtven was notably president of the Borgerhout district in Antwerp. She embarked on active politics with the sp.a in 2013 as alderwoman for Culture in Borgerhout. In the middle of the legislature, in 2016, she became district president.
By 2015, she had also become vice-president of the party, alongside then-president John Crombez. It will remain so until 2019.
