Climate activists from Renovate Switzerland disrupted an awards ceremony at the Locarno film festival on Monday evening. A video shows a man speaking on stage to plead for greater commitment to climate protection.
‘We are not happy to be here, but climate change is scary. Governments must step up their fight,” the activist said in English in the video posted on the X social network, formerly Twitter. Applause but also boos are heard in the audience.
In a press release, Renovate Switzerland indicates that two sympathizers glued themselves to the stage, interrupting the presentation of an award to French director Luc Jacquet, who gave them the microphone so that they might express themselves.
The Renovate Switzerland activists were taken away around 9:45 p.m. and handed over to the Ticino cantonal police, the statement added.
