Renovation Plans for Avenue Hamoir and the Hamoir Park in Schaerbeek: Enhancing the Green Lung and Playgrounds

It is the green lung of the Helmet district in Schaerbeek. However, the Hamoir park is poorly valued and the meager playground is hard to see. A situation that should change, hopes the Défi-Écolo majority. We learn that a planning permit has been introduced to completely renovate Avenue Hamoir between Place Princesse Élisabeth and Square Riga.

“We want to renovate this avenue. We are also going to redo the sidewalks and keep the trees”, confirms the Schaerbeek alderman Vincent Vanhalewyn (Ecolo). An ocher-coloured cycle path will therefore be laid out.

Central element of the project: the playground, which currently consists of a few modules. “The playground is in a pitiful state, do not hide the agent. We are going to move from a playground with furniture to a recreational space, like Porte de Hal.”

25 places removed

A total of 25 parking spaces will be removed in the perimeter with 281 spaces. We do not eliminate parking for pleasure. We delete when necessary”, justifies the alderman.

The work is not scheduled before the end of 2025. Square Riga is not part of the project, but will be called upon to be redesigned with the future (and hypothetical?) arrival of metro 3.
