This is a special intervention to which firefighters from the Hemeco zone and the GRIMP (Reconnaissance and Intervention Group in Dangerous Environments) were entitled on Saturday. The latter were required in Hamoir (province of Liège), on the banks of the Ourthe, to come to the aid of a Dutch tourist who had received a bad reception following testing a zip line in an unsupervised manner.

The events took place in front of the Rock of the Virgin, a place well known in the region and popular with tourists. A young man of Dutch nationality aged around twenty years old was injured while descending clinging to a makeshift zip line.

A young Dutch tourist decided to test a zip line in an unsupervised way… with a simple carabiner“, indicated the rescue zone. “Without a braking system, reception was therefore not optimal. Arriving on site, the ambulance crew, following assessing the patient and the remote location, immediately called for medical reinforcement and specific firefighter reinforcements, in particular a GRIMP team“, added the emergency services.

An evacuation over the Ourthe was initially considered, the victim finding himself in a small space between the river and the railway line, with no access for vehicles. Finally, a longer stretcher via a cramped path was carried out. The injured man was then transported to an area hospital.
