Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Sunday, calling for a “new approach” in the ministry, following a year and a half of war.

“Olexi Reznikov spent more than 550 days in a state of total war. I think the ministry needs a new approach and other forms of interaction with the army and society,” Zelensky said in his daily entry.

Zelensky announced that he would appoint Rustam Omirov as the new defense minister.

The announcement came in Zelensky’s videotaped evening address to the nation to announce the biggest change in the Ukrainian military during the war.
