Rihanna Shooting: Woman Charged with Attempted Murder, $1.875M Bail

Los Angeles, CA – A Florida woman has been formally charged with attempted murder following a shooting at the Beverly Hills home of singer Rihanna on Sunday, March 8. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, allegedly fired an AR-15-style assault rifle at the residence while Rihanna was reportedly inside with her three children and partner, A$AP Rocky.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Ortiz faces one count of attempted murder, along with 10 felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. If convicted as charged, Ortiz could face a sentence of up to life in state prison. Her bail has been set at $1.875 million, reduced from an initial $10.2 million, and she is scheduled to be arraigned on March 25, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s office.

Police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 1:21 p.m. On Sunday. Authorities allege Ortiz fired around 10 shots from her white Tesla, which was parked across the street from Rihanna’s mansion. One round penetrated a wall of the home, leaving bullet holes in the gate and an RV parked on the property. Ortiz reportedly fled the scene in her vehicle, leading to a pursuit by law enforcement. A police helicopter tracked the Tesla to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where she was arrested approximately 30 minutes after the initial 911 call.

Details of the Arrest and Prior Record

During the arrest, officers recovered an assault rifle and seven casings from Ortiz’s vehicle. According to court records obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Ortiz has a prior criminal history in Florida, including a 2013 bankruptcy filing, an arrest for careless driving in 2021, and arrests in 2023 on suspicion of domestic violence and battery. She is a licensed speech pathologist with no known connection to Rihanna or A$AP Rocky.

Online Posts and Potential Motive

Investigators are exploring a potential motive for the shooting, focusing on Ortiz’s recent online activity. The Los Angeles Times reported that Ortiz had posted about Rihanna multiple times on her Facebook page in February. On February 17, she shared a meme suggesting the singer had a sexually transmitted infection. On February 23, she directly tagged Rihanna in a post writing, “@badgirlriri Are you there? Cause I was waiting for your AIDS 5-head self to say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”

As of Wednesday, March 11, neither Rihanna nor A$AP Rocky have publicly commented on the incident. ABC7 San Francisco reported that Rihanna was home with her three children at the time of the shooting, though it remains unclear if Rocky was present.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine the full extent of Ortiz’s intent. The District Attorney’s office is preparing for the arraignment on March 25, where Ortiz will formally enter a plea. The case is expected to draw significant public attention given the high profile of the victim and the severity of the charges.
