According to data from the latest report Poverty in Childhood and Adolescence published by Unicef Brazil: 61% of Brazilian boys and girls live in a state of poverty, having at least one of their six basic rights denied, including the right to play. The study reveals that 7.4% of children aged 10 to 13 work inside or outside the home and 3% of those aged 5 to 9 also work.

To help reduce this inequality, the Rio Bus Station is promoting, starting today (Monday, 11/9), the Toy Campaign, in partnership with Socicam, a company that manages bus terminals across Brazil. The campaign takes place nationally in more than 30 bus terminals in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Mato Grosso do Sul, Ceará and aims to benefit thousands of children from needy institutions.

In the State of Rio, the Rio Bus Stations, Roberto Silveira, in Niterói and Nilton Barbosa, in Angra dos Reis, participate in the initiative. Collection boxes were installed at the main entrances to bus stations to receive donations until October 9, 2023 and will be available 24 hours a day for those interested.

“We invite the participation of passengers and the general population, in addition to encouraging terminal employees to ensure compliance with the concessionaire’s social role, in addition to reinforcing the importance of play for children’s development”, reinforces Roberta Faria, general director of Rodoviária do Rio S/A.

The concessionaire reminds that those interested in participating in the campaign should preferably donate new toys or toys in good condition. As soon as the bus stations close the action, donations will be gathered and separated by age (from newborn children to 11 years old) and sent to the entities registered by the concessionaire in Rio.
