The number of accidents with electric scooters has increased 20-fold in a short time. Faced with this increase, Suva expects 3,500 accidents this year.

Practical, easy to transport and inexpensive to maintain, electric scooters can be easily rented in major Swiss cities. Their many advantages mean that they are very popular in various age groups, noted Thursday the Swiss national accident insurance fund (Suva).

On the other hand, they contribute to the increase in the number of accidents. According to insurer statistics, nearly 2,300 accidents involving these vehicles occurred in 2021. In 2018, only around a hundred accidents were recorded.

“Since then, the number of accidents has grown exponentially,” writes Suva, which expects 3,500 accidents with electric scooters for the year 2023.

Be careful

Stability is not very good on these machines, especially in gloomy weather conditions. It is very important to drive carefully due to the small wheels, the high speed and the possible steep inclination when cornering, emphasizes accident insurance.

This reminds you that you should not use e-scooters in pairs, that you must adapt your driving, wear a helmet and not headphones and be visible.
