The scourge of car theft continues to spread in Canada, to the point where even manufacturers are no longer safe from thieves, as Ford in Ontario learned the hard way.

On the night of January 7 to 8, thieves entered the courtyard of the Ford automobile plant in Oakville, following cutting a large opening in the fence protecting the site. They then stole no less than 14 brand new Edge sport utility vehicles (SUVs), Halton Regional Police revealed Tuesday.
The value of the stolen vehicles is around $630,000, police said, adding that they were able to recover 12 of them during their investigation.
To date, five people have been arrested – four men and one woman – and face numerous charges, including counts of theft, breach of probation or possession of a weapon which differ from one accused to another.
These arrests are in addition to another crackdown unveiled Monday by York Regional Police, which nabbed 11 suspects who face 96 charges for their role in a car theft ring that was sent overseas. -sea as far as Georgia or Azerbaijan.
