LONDON – There are 105,000 homeless families in England living in temporary shelter homes and hotel rooms. 131,000 people, including children, end up in temporary shelters. This figure is more than 10 percent higher than last year.

It was in 2004 that before this there was a situation where so many people became homeless and lived in temporary shelters. The government spends £11.5 billion a year on housing projects. The government estimates that 300,000 new homes are built annually. But the current demand is more than this.

Homelessness has risen to its highest rate in 25 years as the number of immigrants surges and people’s ability to afford rental housing declines.
