RNI’s Vision for the Future: Morocco’s National Rally of Independents

Rabat – The Rassemblement National des Indépendants (RNI) party in Morocco is outlining its vision for the future following a nationwide tour and recent leadership changes. The party, which concluded a campaign across all 12 regions of Morocco on December 20th in Tangier, is now emphasizing a forward-looking agenda, building on what it describes as a track record of accomplishments.

The RNI’s shift in focus, from a focus on past achievements to a vision for the future, comes after a period of internal transition. The party recently held an extraordinary congress, marked by a change in leadership and what observers have called a demonstration of internal democracy. This transition, as highlighted by party officials, is intended to embody both democratic principles and ethical political conduct.

Aziz Akhannouch, the outgoing president of the RNI, underscored the party’s commitment to developing future leaders. During the RNI’s national congress in El-Jadida on February 7th, Akhannouch stated the party had established 19 parallel organizations dedicated to training and developing political elites. He also emphasized the importance of ethical conduct and responsibility within the party, framing these as core values for its future direction.

The RNI’s “Voie des Réalisations” (Path of Achievements) tour, which preceded the emphasis on future planning, aimed to connect with citizens and address their concerns. Akhannouch reiterated the belief that effective political action must be rooted in local realities and driven by regional dialogue and trust. This approach, according to the party, is central to fulfilling the mandate entrusted to the current majority government.

Rachid Talbi Alami characterized the RNI’s recent national congress as a pivotal moment in the party’s history, emphasizing the significance of Akhannouch’s decision to step down as a demonstration of democratic values and political ethics. Several RNI leaders have praised Akhannouch’s decade-long leadership, acknowledging his substantial contributions to the party’s growth and success.

The party’s strategy appears to be centered on building upon existing successes while simultaneously preparing for future challenges. The RNI’s messaging consistently highlights the importance of listening to citizens and maintaining close ties with local communities. This emphasis on proximity and responsiveness is presented as a key element of the party’s approach to governance.

The shift in messaging, from “Voie des Réalisations” to “Voie de l’Avenir” (Path of the Future), signals a deliberate effort to position the RNI as a dynamic and forward-thinking political force in Morocco. The party’s leaders are actively promoting a vision of ambitious and collaborative progress, aiming to build a better future for the country.

As the RNI navigates this transition, the focus will be on translating its stated vision into concrete policies and initiatives. The party’s ability to maintain its connection with citizens and deliver on its promises will be crucial in shaping its future trajectory and influence within Moroccan politics. The next steps for the RNI will likely involve outlining specific policy proposals and engaging in further dialogue with stakeholders across the country.
