This Friday early evening, around 6:30 p.m., a road accident occurred on the A54 motorway, in the Brussels-Charleroi direction, near Lodelinsart. A car, a small white city car alone in question, tipped over into the void following passing over the concrete railing: it was only held in a precarious position by the vegetation.
The Jumet firefighters, under the orders of Lieutenant Malanion, went to the scene urgently with extrication and marking. While the road police (WPR) assisted by the local police of Charleroi drew up a plan to secure the scene of the accident, due to the heavy traffic on this axis at this time, the firefighters first had to secure the car before being able to extract the driver. The latter, injured, was taken care of by an SMUR dispatched to the scene before being taken by ambulance to hospital.
A slip road on the A54 motorway as well as the right-hand lane and the hard shoulder (BAU) had to be closed to traffic, causing major traffic jams. Several motorists have also received tickets for trying to overtake through the hard shoulder, our correspondent on site told us.
