Robert Kennedy’s sons appealed to the parole commission to release their father’s killer

A California parole board has voted to release Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, who was convicted of murdering presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy in the 1968 U.S. presidential election.

Sirhan Sirhan spent 53 years in prison after shooting Robert F. Kennedy, the front-runner in the elections, following a speech he gave in front of a hotel in Los Angeles, an incident that is said to have changed the course of history.

The vote, which concluded that Sarhan did not pose a threat to public security, did not necessarily mean that he would actually be released.

The decision, following the recommendation of the parole panel, remains with California Governor Gavin Newsam regarding implementation of that recommendation.
