RødeCaster Video Core: New Compact Console for Streamers & Creators

by Sophie Lin - Technology Editor

Australian audio technology company Røde has unveiled the RødeCaster Video Core, a compact all-in-one video and audio production console designed to expand its ecosystem for content creators. Alongside the new hardware, Røde introduces RødeCaster Sync, a new integration feature that seamlessly connects the console with the RødeCaster Pro II and RødeCaster Duo audio interfaces, creating a unified production environment for both audio and video workflows.

The launch follows the release of the RødeCaster Video S in November and reinforces Røde’s strategy of providing all-in-one solutions for podcasters, streamers, and digital creators. The Video Core is specifically designed for those working with modular or software-driven workflows, offering a flexible platform for producing professional-quality content for video podcasts, live streams, and studio productions.

Despite its compact form factor, the RødeCaster Video Core integrates the same high-performance octa-core processor found in Røde’s flagship models, enabling smooth handling of video switching, recording, and streaming tasks. The device supports up to four simultaneous video sources and five customizable scenes, along with advanced tools like transitions, graphic overlays, and multi-camera compositions for broadcast-quality results without the complexity of traditional professional systems, according to Gadget Voize.

Connectivity options include three full HD (1080p) HDMI inputs with automatic frame rate conversion, a configurable HDMI output for monitoring or multiview, and two USB-C ports for connecting additional video or audio devices. The system too supports network cameras via NDI, allowing for up to four inputs over Ethernet, and integrates with the free Røde Capture app for iOS, enabling an iPhone to be used as a dual-camera source for live streams.

Audio Quality at the Core

The RødeCaster Video Core places a strong emphasis on audio quality, a key aspect of the RødeCaster ecosystem. It incorporates two Neutrik combo connectors with Revolution Preamps, capable of capturing audio from XLR microphones, instruments, or line-level signals with ultra-low noise and high gain. The system also features APHEX audio processing, including an equalizer, compressor, noise gate, high-pass filter, and de-esser, as well as the Aural Exciter, Big Bottom, and Compellor effects, widely used in professional productions.

RødeCaster Sync: Unified Control

A key feature of the launch is RødeCaster Sync, which allows the Video Core to connect with compatible RødeCaster audio consoles via a simple USB-C cable. This integration enables creators to manage both audio and video from a single surface, expand the number of available inputs and outputs, and share mixing and recording functions. According to Audio Newsroom, this allows creators already using RødeCaster audio devices to easily expand into video production while maintaining the same control experience and sound quality.

“The launch of RødeCaster Video Core and RødeCaster Sync marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of content creation,” said Damien Wilson, CEO of Røde. He explained that the company’s goal is to offer a complete ecosystem that allows any creator to produce professional content regardless of their technical level or workflow, as reported by Gadget Voize.

The device is designed to adapt to different production scenarios, allowing for direct streaming to platforms like YouTube and Twitch via Ethernet, recording content to external USB drives or SSDs, and even performing ISO recordings of each audio and video source for easier post-production editing. It also includes EDL export for DaVinci Resolve, enabling reconstruction of the production timeline and accelerating post-production processes.

Firmware Updates Enhance the Ecosystem

Alongside the launch, Røde has announced firmware updates for the entire RødeCaster series. These updates include EDL timeline export, expanded USB camera compatibility with compressed UVC input and MJPEG support, and improvements to importing multimedia files with non-standard resolutions or formats. The update also extends to the RødeCaster Duo, increasing its audio interface channels from seven to nine, matching the Pro II model. Wireless inputs no longer replace combo inputs, allowing simultaneous use of XLR microphones and wireless receivers, according to Redshark News.

The RødeCaster Video Core is priced at $599, as noted by Audio Newsroom.

As Røde continues to refine its integrated hardware and software solutions, the future of streamlined content creation looks increasingly accessible for a wider range of creators. The ongoing firmware updates and the potential for further integration between RødeCaster devices suggest a continued commitment to evolving the platform based on user feedback and industry demands.
