Economist Rodrigo Chaves, from the Social Democratic Progress Party, won this Sunday the second round presidential elections in Costa Rica with 52.9% of the votes, with 89% of the tables counted.
The first cut of results presented by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal indicates that with 89% of the tables counted, Chaves obtains 52.9% and former president José María Figueres, of the National Liberation Party, has 47.1%.
For election day, participation reached 57.33 percent and abstention 42.86 percent. In addition, 1,890,785 valid votes are reported, as well as 50,014 between invalid and blank, this gives 1,940,799 votes received.
