(Keystone-ATS) Roger Pfund, the father of the Swiss passport and the last French bank notes, died on Saturday at the age of 80, the family told Keystone-ATS on Sunday, returning to information from RTS. He is one of the best-known Swiss graphic designers in the world.

Roger Pfund, born in Bern in December 1943, was first a jazz double bass player before launching into graphic design and designing the new Swiss passport in 2003. But his specialty is banknotes. He is at the origin of the reserve series which lies dormant in the vaults of the Swiss National Bank and the last French banknotes.

Roger Pfund also won the competition to create Euro tickets, but deemed too avant-garde, the project was ultimately awarded to an Austrian. Despite his success, his graphic design workshop went bankrupt.

Artist, he paints icons like Callas, Rimbaud or Proust. Thanks to his international reputation, retrospectives are devoted to him from Beijing to Geneva, his hometown, where he created a monumental work for the 50th anniversary of the UN.
