Rouen Normandie Rugby Gears Up for Pro D2 Ambitions with Stable Squad and Key Signings

With the national championship season fast approaching, Rouen Normandie Rugby (RNR) is solidifying its position for a triumphant campaign, aiming for promotion to Pro D2. Having reached the semi-finals last season, the Lions are focused on continuity and strategic recruitment.

The club’s two-year project for promotion to Pro D2 enters its second year with an emphasis on maintaining squad stability. Off-season movements have been minimal, with the RNR prioritizing the retention of its promising young talents from the training center. Ten players have signed their first professional contracts or extensions, including promising talents like scrum-half Maxime cassonnet, fullback Aloïs Tent, flanker Ernest eudier, prop Sidi-Mohamed Diallo, and hooker Lucas Poisson.

While eleven young players were initially set to continue, the highly effective center Marin Boulier, a revelation last season with 10 tries, has departed for Vannes, a club in Pro D2. Vannes’ offer proved too significant to refuse for the sought-after 21-year-old.

To bolster the squad, RNR has welcomed four new additions:

Jack Metcalf: The 24-year-old English center from Newcastle Falcons arrives to fill the void left by Marin Boulier.
Absalome: This 28-year-old Fijian International centre, who previously played for Fijian Drua in Super Rugby Pacific, makes the move to compensate for the departure of Opetera Peleseuma, who had a significant tenure of 81 matches and 11 tries over five seasons.
Théo Bastardie: The 25-year-old winger joins from Vannes, bringing with him experience from 27 Pro D2 matches.
Pierce Phillips: The imposing 32-year-old English lock stands at 2.03 meters and weighs 120 kg,with 52 Pro D2 matches to his name from his time with Grenoble.

on the coaching front, Romain Sola now leads as head coach, overseeing the backline and offensive strategies. He is joined by former French international Yannick Nyanga, who is responsible for the forwards and defense. Karlen Asieshvili also joins the coaching setup, focusing on the scrum.

Rouen Normandie Rugby will kick off their season at home at the Diochon stadium against Suresnes on Friday, August 22nd, or Saturday, August 23rd.
