The ÖMR’s Music Starters Network invites you to a panel discussion on “Club culture in Vienna” on November 28, 2023.

Initiatives and networks in the area of club culture with cultural policy and feminist agendas and goals, with concerns regarding equality, visibility and diversity have many common themes:

  • lack of representation of FLINTA* and BIPOCs at events,
  • missing role models,
  • official requirements,
  • bureaucratic hurdles,
  • Discrimination in the awarding of funding,
  • Sexism,
  • Racism,
  • structural abuse of power.

The roundtable on the topic of “Vienna club culture” organized by Magdalena Fürnkranz (ipop – Institute for Popular Music) and Michael Huber (IMS – Institute for Music Sociology) would like to discuss the current situation of the Vienna club scene, especially with regard to #meetoo in electronic music Address #technometoo and discuss experiences and lessons learned from the Corona lockdowns with protagonists. Last but not least, we want to take a look into the future of Viennese club culture. The roundtable is aimed at musicians, artists, journalists, students and scientists.
