A beautiful challenge that deserves to be welcomed. Aurélien Vanbaleghem, 27 years old, decided to run to honor the memory of his mother, who died of cancer last May at the Aubenas hospital center. The young man, who is from Ardèche and has been living in Savoie for two years, runs from Chambéry (Savoie) to Vals-les-Bains (Ardèche), where his mother rests. He left Monday evening at 5 p.m. from the Fountain of Elephants in Chambéry and is expected this Tuesday at the town hall of Vals-les-Bains around 6:30 p.m.

200 km at the front

The race of nearly 200 kilometers, at night, at the front, should last “between 24h and 26h”. The date of arrival was not chosen at random, because August 29 is his mother’s birthday, died of generalized cancer on May 13 following fighting for 23 years (she had two breast cancers, then bone and liver metastases).

With this challenge, Aurélien wants to pass a message of self-transcendenceand pay tribute to all the patients who are fighting once morest cancer. “I, who played football for 20 years, she followed me everywhere, despite her chemotherapy, when you’re a child you don’t realize… but today I realize what she did for me , come to the field on weekends, when she was sick”, explains the young man.

“She had a warrior’s mind”

“She went above and beyond for her children, for her grandchildren (…) she fought for others, to fully enjoy life, what she might have… because she knew that at all moment she might leave (…) me, by doing this race, I know that the mind is going to be essential, and the warrior mind that my mother had, I will retransmit it today”.

His brother Florent, 31 years old, also accompanies him for the race, and their father will do the last kilometers with them. The project (called UltraMaman) is the subject ofan online kitty the donations collected will go to the League once morest cancer of Savoie for actions in favor of patients and their caregivers.
