Russia informed Bolivia that it has “priority” in the next shipment of the second dose of Sputnik V

By means of an official note, the Russian background Direct Investment (RDIF) informed Bolivia What is it a priority destination for the next shipment of the second dose of vaccines Sputnik V. The letter was released in moments of complaints and impatience in that country due to the lack of a second dose. But also affects the region, particularly, in Argentina

In effect, the same happens in Argentina, which in the last hours made the news after knowing another letter, the one that the presidential adviser Cecilia Nicolini -official negotiator of the plan vaccination– send to RDIF for press for lack of second dose and that was not answered. The Argentina awaits something less than 7 million doses of component 2 of the Russian vaccine.

“We assure you that the deliveries of the Sputnik V vaccine to Bolivia are within our current top priorities“reads the letter released by the Bolivian Information Agency.

The Russian text continues. “By means of this note we would also like to confirm that we plan to carry out the next shipment of component two of the vaccine to Bolivia of the next batch available for export from Russia ”, reads the note addressed to the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade of Bolivia, Benjamin Blanco.

In that letter, the Russian Fund also maintains that official data from the Ministry of Health of the Buenos Aires province from Argentina show that “the first injection of Sputnik Light has an efficacy of 83.7% with elderly patients (60-79) and only 0.27% of those who take the first dose of Sputnik Light are infected with COVID-19, which is much lower than with the Astrazeneca (0.46%) and Sinopharm (0.49%) vaccines ”.

As reported by the EFE agency, in Bolivian cities such as Sucre there were protests of people who have not received the application of the second dose even though it was already scheduled.

The controversy with Cecilia Nicolini

With a wide mail in English shipped July 7, Cecilia Nicolini, in her suspicious function In charge of negotiating the purchase of vaccines with foreign laboratories, she complained to the Russian Fund for the delay. According Clarín reportedese mail was never answered because it was not read.

In that letter from Nicolini too a geopolitical bet was revealed of the government of Alberto Fernandez, underlying the pressure to comply with shipments that were 7 months in default.

After publishing that information in this newspaper, the Executive assured that the recipient did read the letter, but that there is no evidence of the answer because it was made “by phone”.

“On Monday 500 liters arrive (the equivalent of 800 thousand doses) of component two and next week another 500 liters to be produced in Richmond “, argued the official who contacted this newspaper to affirm that there was a claim that was attended by Russia.

Anyway, the answer written yes it arrived in Bolivia.

On that note – Nicolini, who headlined in Moscow alongside Carla Vizzotti the negotiations to buy the vaccines developed by the Gamaleya Institute – reported a “critical” situation due to the impossibility of completing the vaccination schedules.

“As I mentioned to you today, we are in a very critical situation. We were hopeful that after the conversation you, Carla, Kirill, and I had a couple of weeks ago, things were going to get better. But they have gotten worse, “the letter says.

Hours after it became known that the Government sent a letter to Russia demanding doses of the second component of the Sputnik V vaccine, the opposition asked the Executive to give answers in Congress.

Deputies of Together for Change, led by the vice president of the Chamber’s Health commission, Carmen Polledo, presented a formal request to summon Nicolini and Vizzotti.

Alberto Fernández with Cecilia Nicolini. The adviser conveyed to Russia “the disappointment” of the President for the failure to deliver vaccines.

Unlike the other vaccines that are applied in the country to combat the coronavirus, Sputnik V is made up of two different doses of compounds. The first is based on a human adenovirus 26 vector (Ad26); the second, from adenovirus 5 (Ad5).

As Clarín reported, the problem with Sputnik it is precisely in this second element, whose production turned out to be much more difficult than the first, something that a few weeks ago Marcelo Figueiras, accountant and owner of the Richmond laboratory explained to this medium: “It is a question of productive performance”.

However, Nicolini’s tone in his letter made it clear “the disappointment” of the President before the failure of several months by the Russians, despite the political commitment to its scientific development.
