Russia “official request for UN and Red Cross participation in bombardment of POW camps”

Russia has officially requested the participation of the United Nations (UN) and the International Red Cross in an investigation into the bombardment of a POW camp that killed more than 50 Ukrainian POWs, Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported on the 31st.

According to the report, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the same day, saying, “For an objective investigation into the death of a large number of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POW) in the Olenyuka (Donetsk Province) in eastern Ukraine, we are officially participating in the United Nations and the International Red Cross. requested,” he said.

On the previous day, UN spokesman Farhan Haq said the UN was ready to launch an investigation into the bombardment of Olenivka.

Sputnik news agency, citing the Donetsk People’s Republic of Korea (DPR) Territorial Defense Force, said that the bombardment on the morning of the 29th killed 53 Ukrainian POWs held in Olenyuka concentration camp and injured more than 130.

Currently, Russia and Ukraine are fighting over who bombed the Olenivka camp.

Russia alleges that Ukrainian forces used a U.S.-backed High-Speed ​​Mobile Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to attack the DPR-occupied area.

Ukraine, on the other hand, has launched an investigation, accusing Russia of launching an attack to cover up evidence such as torture in the camps.
