The Russian-American discussions on Ukraine began in Geneva at 8:55 am on Monday as part of the dialogue on strategic stability set up in the followingmath of the Biden-Poutine summit last June. The stakes are high. It affects the sovereignty of Ukraine as well as European security. The outcome of the Geneva meeting might depend on the possibility of a very dangerous conflict at the gates of Europe. If the delegations of more than twenty people on both sides have been meeting for several hours at the United States mission, nothing has filtered out the content and state of mind of the discussions. But the days leading up to this meeting between the number two in American and Russian diplomacy Wendy Sherman and Sergei Riabkov have shown the extent of the road to be covered for the two powers to commit to reducing tensions between the two countries.
