The founder of the Russian private military group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said his rebellion was aimed at saving his group, not overthrowing the Russian government.
Prigozhin added in an 11-minute audio message in which he did not reveal his whereregardings, the first since his call for rebellion, which he later retracted: “We went to protest, not to overthrow the power in the country.”
Prigozhin defended his short-lived rebellion, saying he acted in response to an attack that killed many of his fighters.
