The spectacular advance of the Wagner Group towards Moscow during its fleeting uprising Saturday reveals “serious security problems” in Russia, said this Monday (06.26.2023) the head of this mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhinwho noted that his men covered 780 km and met very little resistance.
Prigozhin made his first public comments in an 11-minute audio message a day following the rebellion, without disclosing his current location.
The businessman affirmed that his combatants they advanced towards the capital and stopped “200 kilometers from Moscow.”
He also stated that his goal was not to “overthrow power in the country” but to prevent the “destruction of the Wagner group” and did not want to “shed Russian blood.”
“We demonstrated a high level of organization that the Russian army should have,” he added.
He also stated that during his tour, civilians expressed their support, something that exposes the fragility of power in Russia. “Civilians greeted us with Russian flags and the Wagner symbol,” he said. “Everyone was very happy when we passed by.”
