After Shiv Sena came to power in Maharashtra, the security of cricket greats Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar has been withdrawn.

Great batsman Sachin Tendulkar and former captain Sunil Gavaskar were provided X category security by the Maharashtra state government. Under this category, a policeman along with a concerned person performs 24-hour security duties. Sachin Tendulkar can be provided with a police escort, said a senior Mumbai Police officer on condition of anonymity.

Besides, the Shiv Sena government has also re-evaluated the security of other key figures and withdrawn the security of several people. Aditya Thackeray, son of Hindu extremist outfit Shiv Sena chief and recently elected Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray, was earlier being given Y Plus security but now his security has been upgraded to Z category.

Note that X, Y, Z+ and SPG security are provided to various important persons in India. The lowest rank is X category in which only 2 policemen are posted and perform duty in rotation, i.e. one officer at a time with X category personality. The most hi-fi security category in India is the SPG category, the details of which are kept secret and only the Prime Minister knows about them.
