Burkeville, Virginia – The Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation (VCBR) is actively recruiting for Safety, Security and Treatment Technicians, a role critical to maintaining a therapeutic environment for residents. This position, with a hiring range of $41,265 and commensurate with experience, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the rehabilitation of individuals civilly committed as Sexually Violent Predators. The VCBR, operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), provides intensive treatment aimed at reducing risk and facilitating a safe return to the community under close supervision.

The Safety, Security and Treatment Technician role is central to the daily functioning of the therapeutic community at VCBR. These technicians are responsible for fostering a supportive and structured environment for approximately 40 residents, implementing behavioral interventions, enforcing facility policies, and meticulously documenting resident behavior. The position requires a blend of security awareness, therapeutic understanding, and strong communication skills, all within a secure treatment setting. Responsibilities and Qualifications

Successful candidates will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including community development within their assigned living unit, assisting with the implementation of therapeutic interventions, conducting regular room inspections, and maintaining detailed records of resident behaviors. A key aspect of the role involves enforcing unit rules and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of both residents and staff. The position also requires the ability to respond effectively to potentially challenging situations, utilizing established methods of physical control and first aid procedures when necessary.

The DBHDS outlines several key skills and abilities (KSAs) required for this position. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in operating automated systems and personal computers, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to interpret and apply basic policies and procedures. Independent work ethic, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound problem-solving abilities are also essential. Candidates must be able to successfully complete required certifications and orientation programs, and be willing to work all assigned posts, adhering to established facility policies. The ability to drive a 15-passenger security van is also a requirement.

While not mandatory, an associate degree in Human Services is preferred, as is prior experience working with individuals with behavioral disorders or in a forensic environment. The VCBR is a secure facility located on the DBHDS Nottoway Campus in Burkeville, Virginia, sharing the campus with Piedmont Geriatric Hospital.
