SailGP Welcomes Sweden’s Artemis as 13th Team in Prestigious Racing Circuit

Iain Percy, Chief Executive of Artemis Racing, brings extensive America’s Cup experience to SailGP.

Teh international Sailing series, SailGP, has announced the addition of
Artemis Racing as its 13th team. This Swedish outfit will officially
compete starting in January, marking the beginning of the league’s sixth
season in Perth, Australia.

A New Era for SailGP Competition

The introduction of Artemis Racing, helmed by Olympic gold medalist iain
Percy, signifies ongoing expansion and a growing level of competition in
SailGP. Percy’s leadership builds on his distinguished career, including
his role as team manager during Artemis Racing’s America’s Cup campaigns in
2013 and 2017.

This addition follows the inclusion of teams from Italy and Brazil earlier
in 2025, and comes amid a series of meaningful team acquisitions
throughout the year. A rigorous tender process lead by Deloitte’s Sports
Business Group ultimately selected Artemis Racing.

Expanding Global Footprint

SailGP has recently solidified its racing calendar by extending hosting
agreements wiht several key locations.These include Germany, Australia,
brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab
Emirates. Perth, Australia, will now host races through at least 2028,
and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host events in both 2026 and 2027.
bermuda and New York City have also confirmed extended hosting rights
through 2028.

The 2026 competition will be structured around an 11-month schedule,
commencing in January in Perth, marking a shift from previous seasons that
spanned across the New Year.

This expansion aligns with sailgp’s five-year plan, established in 2019,
to transition to a fully privately owned team model. Recent investments,
such as Next 3 Ventures’ stake in the US SailGP Team and Ares
Management’s acquisition of the French team, demonstrate substantial
progress.

Russell coutts, SailGP’s Chief Executive, expressed enthusiasm about the
new team and a confidence that thay will be strong competitors from the
start.

Percy echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the team’s commitment to
leveraging technology and expertise to push boundaries within the
championship.
