Sales of the book ‘The Satanic Verses’ increase in the US after attack on Salman Rushdie

Salman Rushdie book sales, and especially his novel the satanic versesincreased on Saturday following the British writer was stabbed more than three decades following that work earned him sentenced to death by the Muslim religious authorities of Iran.

On Saturday followingnoon, three editions of the work topped Amazon’s book barometer, which tracks the pace of books sold in the past 24 hours. His first bestseller, children of midnightoccupied the fourth position.

Rushdie was seriously injured Friday when a man stabbed him in the neck and abdomen during a literary event in upstate New York.

The attack caused worldwide stupor more than 30 years following the religious authorities of Iran considered that the satanic verses it is blasphemy and they ordered the Muslims to assassinate its author.

At New York’s Strand Bookstore, several of Rushdie’s works were among the most sought following by the public, not counting online orders.

People come and look for any of your books, they want to know what we haveKatie Silvernail, a section manager at the bookstore, told AFP.

Twitter users, meanwhile, urged people to buy Rushdie books like way to express solidarity.

Wounded in the neck and abdomen, Rushdie is hospitalized in Pennsylvania in serious condition.
