San Diego,CA – October 26,2025 – Connected fleet technology provider Samsara showcased meaningful advancements in its Artificial Intelligence-powered safety platform at the american Trucking Associations’ 2025 Management Conference & exhibition. The updates center around proactive responses to weather-related hazards and a new approach to driver growth.

Addressing the Surge in Accidents

Company officials emphasized a concerning trend: an increase in both the frequency and the financial burden of transportation accidents. Johan Land, Samsara’s Senior Vice President of Engineering and Head of Safety and AI, pinpointed weather as a critical contributor, stating that it’s implicated in one out of every five crashes.

“Weather conditions are on par with speeding, distracted driving, fatigue, and maintaining safe following distances as major causes of accidents,” Land declared. “Addressing this factor is paramount to improving overall fleet safety.”

Weather Intelligence: A Real-Time Risk Assessment Tool

Samsara’s newly released Weather Intelligence feature unites radar data with insights from its network of AI-enabled dashcams, providing fleets with real-time visibility into potential weather and road hazards. This system delivers National Weather Service alerts and dynamic map overlays depicting radar imagery, wind speeds, and thunderstorm risks directly within the Samsara platform.

Fleet managers now have the ability to remotely view live dashcam footage and images from vehicles operating in affected areas, and also those from nearby equipped vehicles using StreetSense technology. This facilitates the timely dissemination of preventative warnings to drivers, enabling them to adjust their routes or driving behaviors accordingly.

AI-Driven Driver Coaching and Risk Prioritization

Beyond weather, Samsara is employing AI to streamline driver coaching and training processes. The Automated Risk Assessment feature utilizes Artificial Intelligence to analyze and rank safety-related incidents based on severity, frequency, trip parameters, and individual driver history.

Lower-priority occurrences are routed directly to drivers for self-review, while more serious events are flagged for fleet managers, allowing them to concentrate their coaching efforts on drivers posing the highest risk. Jordan Carriers, a Samsara customer, is already benefitting from this system, with a single safety manager effectively overseeing and mentoring 1,000 drivers.

The company’s Performance Overview dashboard provides fleet managers with a extensive view of both risky behaviors and positive driver performance, enabling them to recognize and reward safe driving practices.

Feature Description Benefit
Weather Intelligence Combines radar and dashcam data for real-time risk assessment. Proactive hazard warnings and route adjustments.
Automated Risk Assessment AI-powered analysis of safety events. Prioritized coaching and efficient resource allocation.
Performance Overview Comprehensive view of driver behavior. Recognition of safe drivers and targeted improvement areas.

Samsara initially previewed its expanded AI safety capabilities at its beyond 2025 user conference in June.

Did you know?: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 22% of all traffic crashes are weather-related, resulting in over 7,000 fatalities annually.

pro Tip: Regularly reviewing and updating your fleet’s safety policies to incorporate weather awareness and AI-driven insights can significantly reduce accident rates.
