San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. Hits Game-Changing Two-Run Home Run; Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks Recap

SAN DIEGO — Fernando Tatis Jr. capped San Diego’s four-run eighth inning with a two-run home run and the Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 on Friday.

San Diego won for the third time in four games, improving to 3-2 in a 10-game homestand. The Padres (59-64) need a strong finish to the season and some help to clinch a wild-card spot in the National League.

Robert Suarez (2-2) got three outs for the win and Josh Hader struck out all three in the ninth.

Diamondbacks rookie Brandon Pfaadt pitched seven solid innings. He struck out five and walked three.

Pfaadt was working a no-hitter before Juan Soto doubled him with one out in the seventh. The right-hander remains winless in 12 career starts.

Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno had two of Arizona’s six hits. The Diamondbacks (62-61) have won three straight and five of six overall.

For Diamondbacks, Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno 3-2. The Dominicans Geraldo Perdomo 3-1; Ketel Marte 2-0. The Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. from 4-1.

For Padres, the Dominicans Fernando Tatis Jr. 4-1, with a run scored and two RBIs; Juan Soto from 4-1; and Gary Sanchez 2-0.
