Sassenay, France – A recent blood drive in Sassenay, organized by the inter-village association “Crissey / Sassenay / Lessard / Virey le Grand” in collaboration with the EFS (Établissement Français du Sang), saw a turnout of 84 donors, including four first-time contributors. The event, held on Monday, February 9th, at the Salle Lamartine, underscores the ongoing community effort to maintain vital blood supplies. The drive was particularly significant as it was the first of the season for the association in 2026.
The need for consistent blood donations remains critical and the association has been actively promoting awareness throughout the region. Despite the timing coinciding with school holidays, which organizers anticipated might impact attendance, the event proved successful in attracting both regular and new donors. The Salle Lamartine served as the collection point this year, as the usual venues in Crissey and Virey le Grand are currently undergoing renovations, and expansions.
First-Time Donor Inspired to Give Back
Among the new donors was Anaïs Jacquemard, a 28-year-old resident of Sassenay who works in the transportation sector in the Chalon region. Jacquemard, a native of Sassenay who recently returned to her hometown, had long considered donating blood but found the right opportunity on Monday. Seeing the promotional banners and signs advertising the drive prompted her to take action.
“I had been wanting to donate blood for a while and contribute to saving lives,” Jacquemard shared, describing her experience as positive and reassuring. She noted the well-organized collection process, the professionalism of the staff, and the attentiveness of the volunteers, which eased her initial apprehension as a first-time donor. After donating, Jacquemard enjoyed a refreshment provided by the Amicale team and expressed her intention to donate again in the future.
Community Outreach and Education
The Amicale intervillages is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of blood donation. Prior to the Sassenay drive, volunteers Gisèle, Alain, and Jean-Maurice were present at the Leclerc Nord supermarket on January 30th to promote the event. Patricia and Jean-Maurice visited CM2 students at the elementary school in Crissey on February 3rd, engaging them in a two-hour discussion about the significance of blood donation, hoping to inspire the next generation of donors. The children were described as very interested, disciplined, and attentive during the presentation.
The association’s efforts extend beyond direct promotion. They actively operate to ensure the donation process is accessible and comfortable for all potential donors. Individuals interested in finding a blood donation location can visit the EFS website for a comprehensive map of collection sites.
Further collection drives are planned throughout the year. A mobile collection will be held in Saint Remy on February 24th and April 28th, from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM, at Salle Georges Brassens. Additional drives are scheduled in St Marcel (March 20th), Fragnes La Loyere (March 31st), Lessard Le National (April 14th), and Givry (April 15th), as detailed on the EFS website.
The Amicale intervillages continues to play a vital role in ensuring a stable blood supply for the region, relying on the generosity of volunteers and the commitment of community members like Anaïs Jacquemard.
