Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan questioned the possibility that reviving the Iranian nuclear deal would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Faisal bin Farhan said, at the World Policy Conference in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, on Sunday evening, that reviving the Iranian nuclear agreement should be a “starting point,” stressing that the indications for the current revival of the agreement are “not positive.”
And the Saudi foreign minister added: “If an agreement is not reached, I think we will enter a very complex and dangerous period in our region that we must avoid, and even if an agreement is reached, this is not the end, and we must look beyond that for a strong agreement.” .
In response to a question regarding the possibility of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, the Saudi foreign minister said: “We hear from the Iranians that they have no interest in obtaining nuclear weapons, but we need more guarantees.”
He added: “If Iran obtained a nuclear weapon, it is not possible to expect what might happen. We are in a very dangerous area. We have seen great activities from Iran and we can witness more dangerous activities.”
He continued by saying: “The countries of the region will not want to be exposed to such a threat without reaction, so it can be expected that the countries of the region will seek how to ensure their security.”
