For the first time since Marcel Hirscher in 2018, an Austrian is at the top of the rankings at Christmas. Schwarz needed a win to close the 92-point gap to Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt, but was only in sixth place at the halfway point of the classic in Trentino, where he had achieved his first podium finish in third place in 2015.
