Former Gaelic Football Manager Received Substantial payments For Housing Refugees

Séamus ‘Banty’ McEnaney,a prominent figure in Irish Gaelic football,and members of his family have been remunerated with over €231 million for providing accommodation to asylum seekers and Ukrainian refugees,according to recently released data.

The former Monaghan Senior Football Team manager has consistently been among the highest-paid individuals benefiting from contracts with the Department of Justice concerning direct provision services. This revelation comes as scrutiny intensifies regarding the allocation of funds within Ireland’s refugee accommodation system.

Companies Linked to McEnaney Family

Data made public on Saturday detailed payments disbursed by the Departments of Justice and Children. Investigations reveal that Millstreet Equestrian Services, a company formerly managing showjumping events in County Cork, received €104 million for providing temporary accommodation.

Several separate entities involving McEnaney family members were also beneficiaries of substantial payments spanning from 2012 to 2025. A breakdown of payments reveals the following:

Oakgate Limited, founded in April 2022, lists McEnaney’s sisters, Bernadette Walsh and Margaret McCarville, as directors and has received €16.6 million. Margaret McCarville is the sole shareholder of JMA Ventures Limited, which has been allocated €35.6 million. Corduff JG Enterprises Limited, directed and owned by McEnaney’s son, Gavin, has secured €14.8 million. Copperwhistle Limited, with Frank McEnaney-Séamus’s brother-along with his wife Mary and son Cahal, as directors, received €1.6 million.

When contacted for comment, Séamus McEnaney declined to address the figures, according to reports.
