Breaking News: Jordan Bardella’s Party Faces Multiple Judicial Cases
In a significant development, Jordan Bardella’s party, the National Rally (RN), is grappling with several judicial cases that have recently come to light. The most prominent of these concerns Marine Le Pen, the party’s former presidential candidate.
Judicial Information Targeting Electoral Campaigns
On Wednesday, July 9, the headquarters of Jordan Bardella’s party in the 16th arrondissement of Paris was searched as part of a judicial investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office. This investigation focuses on loans granted by individuals to the RN, which could potentially violate the electoral code.
The probe targets the presidential and legislative campaigns of 2022 and the European elections of 2024. Suspicions include illegal loans from individuals, provisions of services, and billing of fictitious services that were later integrated into state reimbursements for campaign expenses.
Jordan Bardella publicly announced these searches on his X account, stating, “Since 8:50 am this morning, the headquarters of the National Rally have been searched by around twenty police officers from the financial brigade, accompanied by two investigating judges.”
European Prosecution Survey for Financial Irregularities
The announcement of the searches coincided with the European prosecution’s investigation into the political family to which the RN belonged in the European Parliament before 2024. The investigation centers on financial irregularities totaling over 4.3 million euros between 2019 and 2024.
Jordan Bardella denounced the harassment, stating, “This is a new harassment operation by the administration of the European Parliament, which has taken responsibility for disseminating internal correspondence within a contradictory procedure.”
Appeal Trial in the Case of MEP Assistants
The most emblematic case involves Marine Le Pen, who was sentenced on March 31 to five years of immediate ineligibility and four years’ imprisonment, including two on probation. The Paris Criminal Court found her at the heart of a system of embezzlement of public funds to pay party employees with European Parliament funds, amounting to 4 million euros between 2004 and 2016.
The RN and 12 other individuals, including Le Pen, have appealed the judgment. An appeal trial is scheduled for the first half of 2026, with a decision expected in the summer of 2026. This trial will be crucial for Le Pen’s political future and her ability to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Le Pen has also appealed to the European Court of Human Rights to contest her ineligibility sentence, but her request was rejected due to the lack of an imminent risk of irreparable damage.
