Security, social development and economy are priorities of the Government of Paraguay

Asuncion, IP Agency.- At the second meeting of the National Country Strategy Team (ENEP), headed by the substitute Minister of Economy and Finance, Oscar Lovera, authorities of the Executive Branch presented the priorities of the Government of Paraguay in three areas: security, social development and economy.

The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) Institute, with the participation of representatives from the private sector and civil society.

The acting minister, Oscar Lovera, stressed that the objective of this space is to establish a permanent and continuous dialogue on the challenges that the country faces in order to generate inclusive, sustained and sustainable development.

“In this regard, the MEF has the role of executive coordinator in this process, in which we ratify the openness to ensure that this dialogue and this process is fluid. The intention is for these processes to have specific short, medium and long-term objectives defined. The best way to make public policies is through dialogue and the exchange of experiences,” he said.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Planning, Javier Charotti, highlighted the decades of macroeconomic solidity, addressed recent challenges and detailed the reform plans that the Government is implementing.

“The Government’s first task was to restore macroeconomic stability and create the conditions for growth. To this end, a credible and responsible fiscal convergence was designed and implemented,” he said.

He referred to the challenge of implementing an ambitious agenda of structural reforms that included the creation of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT), the Superintendency of Retirements and Pensions, the Law of Administrative Organization and the draft Law of the Civil Service.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance team shared the next steps and participation mechanisms that ENEP members will have to get involved in public policy processes.

The session was also attended by the Minister of Social Development, Tadeo Rojas; the Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera; and the Head of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of Paraguay, Lea Giménez.

The ENEP acts as a consultative and advisory body to the Executive Branch, made up of representatives from civil society and State agencies. It is currently made up of 52 members from the social, business and cooperative, academic, scientific and cultural sectors.

Its objective is to “promote social dialogue, with proposals for strategic guidelines and priority goals, to advance towards inclusive, sustained and sustainable development, with an emphasis on overcoming poverty and extreme poverty” (Art. 4° – Decree No. 930/2023).
