Seimas Vice-Chairman J. Razma: The impeachment of V. Gapšis is planned for December 21

“On December 21, it will be proposed to prepare an impeachment against V. Gapši after the Supreme Court did not grant his request and did not suspend the prison sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal. We found out that, unfortunately, V. Gapšys himself does not intend to give up his mandate as a member of the Seimas”, J. Razma, the First Vice-Chairman of the Seimas, who oversees V. Gapšy’s issue, announced on Facebook.

The Supreme Court of Lithuania decided on Wednesday not to suspend the execution of the sentences of those convicted in the political corruption case of the concern MG Baltic (now MG Grupė), including MP V. Gapšios.

V. Gapšius, who was convicted of corruption crimes, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison, and he is currently serving time in Kaunas prison.

V. Gapšys submitted a cassation appeal to the Supreme Court of Lithuania, asking to suspend the execution of the sentence, but the court did not grant this request.

J.Razma notes that if the LAT decides not to suspend the execution of the sentence, the Seimas will vote on the cancellation of V.Gapšis’ mandate in the simplified impeachment procedure.

The first vice-chairman of the Seimas also informed that from the day of V. Gapšis’s arrival to serve his sentence, his salary is not calculated, as are the expenses allocated for parliamentary activities.
